DIY Operation Clean-up A30 – A job well done
On Saturday 14th March, Ashford North Residents Association (ANRA), local residents and Kwasi Kwarteng MP assembled for a community clean-up operation along the A30 in Ashford, an important road on the entry into the Borough. The clean-up was a great a great success and was well attended. More than 20 local residents turned up on the day to get stuck in. There was a great community spirit and a lot was achieved. The difference that has been made is now clearly visible to passing traffic.
ANRA has repeatedly expressed concern that drivers of lorries parking in lay-bys along the A30 between Ashford Hospital and the Clockhouse Lane roundabout, and further along the A30 near the Crooked Billet roundabout in Staines, have been throwing rubbish along the roadside. The idea behind the clean-up operation was to improve the appearance of this area for the benefit of the local community.
ANRA continue to call upon Surrey County Council and Spelthorne Borough Council to install new rubbish bins along both sides of the A30 in Ashford.
Paul West, ANRA chairman, said:
“The clean-up session was a real success. Local volunteers really knuckled down on the day to help make a real difference to the appearance of this important entry road into Ashford. I would like to express my thanks to local residents on behalf of the Ashford North Residents Association for a job well done.”
Kwasi Kwarteng MP said:
“It was a really productive session and great to see so many people turn up on the day. It just goes to show how much people care about their community and the upkeep of the local area. The A30 is a gateway into the Borough, so it is really important that it is maintained.”
