On Friday 22nd March, Kwasi enjoyed a visit to Surplus to Supper in Sunbury-on-Thames. The visit provided a firsthand look at the remarkable work being done by this charity to combat food waste and support local communities.
Surplus to Supper sources and redistributes surplus food that would otherwise go to waste. The charity collects from large producers such as Asda, Costco, and Lidl, and redistributes the food to local organisations such as food banks, care homes, shelters, clubs, and religious organisations.
During the visit, Kwasi discussed the charity’s progress with CEO Andrew Osbourne, Operations and Development Director Claire Hopkins, and several volunteers. Kwasi was very impressed with the dedication and hard work that has been put into Surplus to Supper. Thanks to the efforts of everyone involved, the charity operates like a well-oiled machine, effectively reducing food waste and addressing food insecurity in the community.
Kwasi was also pleased to see some familiar faces as the founder of Stanwell Events and Stanwell Foodbank Anna-Marie Goodacre and her team came for a meeting with the Surplus to Supper team. Food banks such as Stanwell Foodbank work hand in hand with Surplus to Supper to get the food where it is needed the most.
