Business Plan Competition 2017
I am really proud to announce the Spelthorne Business Plan Competition again this year. I set the competition up 4 years ago and have been really impressed with the amount of creativity and entrepreneurism there is in the borough. We have had some fantastic winners and I am looking forward to awarding a winner again this year.
If you would like to enter please go to the web page www.spelthorne.gov.uk/businesscomp
Congratulations to Victoria Beale - Winner of the Spelthorne Business Plan Competition 2016’
Spelthorne in Zone 6
I have been actively supporting the Spelthorne in Zone 6 campaign to try and get Spelthorne into TFL Zone 6, which would mean cheaper rail tickets and smart payment systems for Spelthorne residents travelling in and out of London. The campaign held a public meeting in July with a panel of speakers including myself, Roberto Tambini, Chief Exec of the Spelthorne Borough Council and local Councillors including Olivia Rybinski who has been tirelessly campaigning on this subject. Over 150 local residents attended this meeting which is a clear indication of how important this is to the Borough.
Schools Parliamentary Event
In November I had a fantastic afternoon at Knowle Green Council chambers with a group of dynamic young people from three local secondary schools. We held a mock parliamentary debate with the students debating for the voting age to be lowered to the age of 16. A vote was held at the end of the debate with an unsurprising majority in favour of lowering the age. I awarded prizes to the two best debaters Jack Greaves and Holly Hunter from Sunbury Manor School, who shone out and are sure to have glittering careers in politics!
Continuing on the theme of supporting young people in their education I also visited Thomas Knyvett School and the Brooklands College campus as well as Strodes College at the end of last year. I am always passionate about ensuring our young people in this borough have the best education available to them and thoroughly enjoyed meeting the students and answering their questions.
Remembrance Sunday
Every year I attend a local remembrance service. This year I attended the service in Ashford where I laid a wreath and paid my respects alongside the local town’s residents, local community groups and organisations. There was a very impressive turn out with hundreds of local people attending to pay their respects.
I hold regular advice surgeries in Staines every month where I enjoy meeting local constituents and helping them with their problems. If you would like to book an appointment at one of my surgeries please email sarah.knight@parliament.uk or call 0207 219 2017
