PEOPLE from black minorities are twice as likely to be stopped and searched by Surrey Police than white or Asian people, a new report has found.
Figures released by the Equality and Human Rights Commission showed that in 2007/08, 39 black people per 1,000 in Surrey were stopped and searched, more than double the number for white (16.7 per 1,000) and Asian people (17.4).
The number of ‘excess’ stops and searches of people from black minorities by officers during that time was recorded as 444. There were 25 excess stops and searches of Asian people....
