HMRC to blame over corporation tax row, say MPs
Britain's "Dickensian" tax system is to blame for the low amount of corporation tax being paid by big businesses in the UK, two Conservative MPs have argued.
Andrea Leadsom, MP for South Northamptonshire, said that HM Revenue & Customs rather than big businesses was to blame for the row over corporation tax payments.
Ms Leadsom told an IEA fringe event at the Tory Party conference in Manchester that the problem was "our own incompetence" which needed to be addressed.
Kwasi Kwarteng, Conservative MP for Spelthorne in Surrey, agreed. "Our tax code is Dickensian, certainly lost around 1965," he said at the same event. "We've got to simplify our tax system."...
