On Monday 18th March, Kwasi was pleased to host a reception in Parliament for the charity Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood UK (SUDC-UK).
Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood (SUDC) is the death of a child aged between 1-18 years that remains unexplained. SUDC was first brought to Kwasi's attention by a family in Spelthorne who tragically lost their son in 2021 just before his second birthday, with the death being categorised as Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood (SUDC) .
In January 2023, Kwasi led a Westminster Hall debate on SUDC to raise awareness of this heartbreaking issue, which is the 4th leading category of death in England and Wales for children aged 1-4 years but usually receives little attention.
This March, Kwasi was pleased to welcome the charity SUDC-UK to parliament and host an event that was attended by medical professionals, affected families, MPs and other relevant professionals. Kwasi was pleased to see a large turnout at the event, and the positive, constructive atmosphere that was fostered. Kwasi gave a moving speech, calling for further research, awareness, and support for affected families.
