On 28th April, Kwasi met with Julia and Christian Rogers, who tragically lost their son Louis in June 2021. Louis’ death was initially categorised as Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood (SUDC), which is the 4th leading category of death in England and Wales for children aged 1-4 years.
In January, Kwasi led a Westminster Hall debate on SUDC to highlight the need for scientific research, medical education, and improved public information on this phenomenon. This was the first time that SUDC had been debated in Parliament and a very positive step forward, but Kwasi has been clear that follow-up is essential.
The meeting was an important opportunity to discuss next steps following the inquest into Louis’ death, as the coroner made several national recommendations to relevant health bodies. Kwasi will continue to work with Mr and Mrs Rogers, and SUDC UK, to ensure that the necessary reforms are implemented as quickly as possible.
