As MPs break for the summer recess, there is an air of optimism, almost euphoria, in the Tory ranks. Conservatives are only three to four points behind Labour in most polls.
One recent one even showed the two main parties level pegging on 36 per cent. There is heady talk of the Tories winning an outright majority, allowing them to break free of their Lib Dem Coalition partners.
Tory MPs have a renewed spring in their step. The Prime Minister’s summer charm offensive has gone down well. There were barbecues, lunches and opportunities for the PM to mix informally with MPs. .....
